Sam Barratt, Head of Media
Sam has run Oxfam’s Media Unit since 2005. Based in Oxford, the team comprises fifteen members of staff who lead on Oxfam’s international media campaigns on trade, humanitarian disasters, aid and debt as well as a UK PR team for 750 shops and individual appeals.

Sam has worked for Oxfam since 2000, leading on all of Oxfam’s campaigns as well as events such as Oxfam’s response to the tsunami, the WTO meetings in Cancun and the war in Afghanistan. He has travelled and worked widely across the world, working for a year developing Oxfam’s media and campaigns work in east Africa. Prior to working for Oxfam, Sam worked for more than three years in corporate public relations.

Amy Barry, Head of News
Amy Barry is Head of News. She oversees planning and day to day output in the press office across all three campaigns and humanitarian emergencies, and manages the senior press officers. She is also a specialist on Latin America, having lived and worked in Brazil. She speaks Spanish and Portuguese. She worked for three years on Oxfam’s Make Trade Fair campaign and still follows the WTO and trade issues and the role of the private sector in poverty reduction. She has been at Oxfam for 5 years. Prior to this she was a features writer at the Times.

Sarah Dransfield, Media & PR Executive
Sarah is the first point of contact for media enquiries and image requests. She also supports on special projects and press monitoring and evaluation.

Lysbeth Holdoway, Features Coordinator
Lys is features coordinator for the press office - both written and photographic. She also works on debt and aid and on the For All campaign. She is the media contact for Southern Africa, and also the contact for media enquiries about Coldplay and Oxfam.

Lys has been with Oxfam since 1999, previously working as a BBC journalist in both television and radio.

Magda Walter, Head of PR
Magda leads on the planning and delivery of Oxfam’s PR and celebrity work in the UK.

Magda is an international media consultant and journalism trainer, and a veteran journalist, who covered business, political and international news. She has also worked as Head of European Media Relations for the World Bank and Head of Global Media for Plan, a leading international children’s NGO.

In her 20 years as a TV producer, assignment editor, supervising producer and bureau chief, Magda has worked for public TV and for CNN in the US, CNBC Asia in Hong Kong, and NBC News in Moscow.

Magda is a member of the board of trustees of the  One World Broadcasting Trust. She holds two Master’s degrees: from the Department of History at Warsaw University and Department of Journalism of Ohio State University. She speaks four languages and has lived in or travelled to more than 60 countries.
