Explore one of the largest Garden regenerations in Britain. The Trentham Estate Stone Road Trentham Stoke-on-Trent Staffordshire
The jewel in the crown of the Trentham Estate, the historic Italian Gardens are one of the most impressive, significant and important garden projects in Europe.
Whilst the magnificent Italian Gardens remain true to Charles Barry’s original creation for the Duke of Sutherland, this is much more than a conventional restoration project. The team at Trentham are breathing new life into the Gardens, with design and Iconic perennial planting, with help from award winning garden designers Tom Stuart-Smith and Piet Oudolf. This contemporary fresh new look is apparent from the moment you enter the gardens, crossing the impressive and avant-garde bridge which spans the River Trent.
Hundreds of thousands of choice perennials and bulbs provide breathtaking displays throughout the year, in a garden that only closes on Christmas Day! The objective is to create a garden that changes throughout the seasons, rewarding visitors with different scenes, colours and experiences each time they visit.
The imposing statue of Perseus stands over the lower garden at the foot of the lake, and looks up over the formal garden with all seven of its restored fountains, loggia and the restored bedding displays in the Upper Flower Garden. Central stage is one of the largest garden projects in Europe, today replanted with in excess of 100,000 choice perennials and spring flowering bulbs – The Italian Gardens.
There is something for everyone – on the Eastern side of the Gardens you will find wild and colourful prairies for you to stroll around – The ‘Rivers of Grass’ and ‘Floral Labyrinth’ . And on the Western side you will find something for all the family including 12 show gardens, woodland walks, tree trails, bird hides, a very engaging children’s play area and Britain’s first Barefoot Walk – The Western Pleasure Gardens
Trentham is currently undergoing a £100 million regeneration project aimed at creating a unique visitor destination of national significance. The 750-acre site, formerly known as Trentham Gardens, is owned by St Modwen Properties PLC and Willi Reitz, the German leisure entrepreneur, and operated by Trentham Leisure Limited.
Our simple aim is to present a myriad of activities and experiences for everyone to enjoy: outdoor leisure on land or water, the enjoyment of good food and a stylish shopping experience. And its centre, we are restoring Britain's most spectacular Italian Garden.
The massive Trentham Garden Centre is now open and so is Phase 2 of our speciality shopping experience ‘The Village’. We also have the Monkey Forest and Aerial Extreme, which are both situated at the Southern end of the Estate
Look out for ‘The Winery’ due to open soon, offering a chance to learn about the wines of the world as well as giving you another fine place to eat.
Over the next few years, Trentham will see some major developments, including the introduction of a number of new attractions and activities, as well as the exclusive five-star Trentham Hall Hotel.
Trentham is a commercial as well as a historic venture. When fully opened, we expect to create some 1000 jobs for the local economy.
