The choir has been meeting weekly since it formed a year ago and is open to everyone, regardless of age, experience or singing ability – there are no auditions, no need to read music - simply turn up and join in. In its first year, the choir has performed at many local community events including the Llangollen Fringe Festival, Focus Wales, St Giles Parish Church where they performed with Africa Entsha from Soweto, the Wrexham Olympic celebrations and a number of performances at local community and charity events including the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk, Motiv8, Homestart and Erddig Hall. Wendy Paintsil of Wrexham Community Choir said “We are just ordinary people who never thought of ourselves as singers and have had amazing opportunities to participate in extraordinary events and become more involved in our community through song. We always welcome new members and whilst it’s wonderful we are able to perform, this is secondary to our coming together weekly just to enjoy singing. We are so fortunate to have an extremely talented, and dynamic MD in Carol Donaldson who has taken a large group of people and created a choir who create a powerful and harmonious sound. “ Musical Director of Wrexham Community Carol Donaldson, has over 12 years experience of working with Community Choirs and over 25 years experience of working as a musician and composer for theatre, television and radio: including BBC Radio 4, the Library Theatre in Manchester, The Octagon Theatre in Bolton, two Children's shows for the West End and most recently for Feelgood theatre company's award winning show 'Slave, a Question of Freedom'. Carol has also just received great reviews for her work as Musical Director for 'Treasure Island' at The Dukes Theatre in Lancaster where she collaborated again with Coronation Street script writer, Debbie Oates.
