Denbigh and Flint County Show which will be held on Thursday 18th August 2016 offers a wonderful day out with a variety of attractions and entertainments

The Denbigh and Flint Show site sits in the heart of the beautiful Vale of Clwyd, Denbighshire, North Wales. During its many years, the Show has travelled all over the Counties of Flintshire – which included Wrexham – and Denbighshire, settling for a long period on the edge of Rhyl. After many years of consideration, the move to the existing site at the Green, Denbigh took place in 1990 with agreement from Mr EMW Griffith to use part of the Ty Newydd Estate.

Since that first year, several changes have taken place to the layout of the site under the watchful eye of the respective Honorary  Show yard Directors and their teams. By today, this has

evolved into the easy to follow site that we see each year at the Show. As well as this major one day event, the Society runs numerous other social and fundraising gatherings throughout the year for its many members and supporters. These include such things as dinners, lunches, whist drives, horse fun rides, fashion shows, and for those who like a flutter, a 100 Club with twice yearly draws for its members.

Other Events

With eleven busy Committees meeting several times each year, the business of the Society and the Show never slumbers for long – even in the depths of winter! Two permanent office staff and one or two temporary summer staff keep matters in hand working from our office base in the town centre of Holywell. On Show day, almost 200 volunteers help to make the day a success, joining top standard Exhibitors and Judges from all over the country as thousands of rosettes are given out, and nearly 150 magnificent trophies are battled for throughout the various sections.

These are some examples of the attractions or activities you can typically expect to see at the Show. You can visit the Livestock area and see  cattle, sheep and pigs of all types being shown and judged by some of our finest stock-men and women. Wander a little further to see the magnificent Shire horses – the gentle giants of the farming world. The Light Horse area with 9 different rings to watch gives a feast of horsemanship. Stay a while and admire the classics in our Vintage section – cars, tractors, engines and machinery from a bygone age of farming.

The Fur and Feather section shows the huge variety of hens, ducks, pigeons and rabbits – and gives the children a chance to show their favourite pets too. Cross over to the Countryside section and watch the skill of the pole lathe turner and the grace of the side saddle demonstration. Learn the correct way to handle an air-rifle and speak to the experts in conservation and country stewardship. Take some time to go shopping – there are over 200 stands at the Show, including the wonderful Food Hall.  Call in and watch the Cookery Demonstrations as they prepare some of the best foods Wales can offer – and you might even get a sample! Admire the magnificent Floral Art and Horticulture section and wonder at those exactly matching produce, then to crown the day, bag your spot at the Main Ring and enjoy displays by such attractions as the CHESHIRE DOG DISPLAY TEAM  or CHARIOTS OF FIRE CARRIAGE TEAM  or other such top displays as these. Check out our Main Attraction page to see who will be on show to thrill you!
