Telford’s Warehouse Chester Christmas and New Year Gigs

History of Telford’s Warehouse

Telford’s Warehouse is an independent family run free house bar and restaurant which opened its doors in 1993. Since then, ‘Telford’s’ has established itself as a nationally recognised music and arts centre.

The building is amongst the most interesting and important features of the historic city of Chester. Originally conceived by the famous industrial engineer Thomas Telford in the 1790’s, the Warehouse stands as a magnificent example of Georgian architecture and as a reminder of the once thriving port of Chester.

The building was constructed partly over the canal to allow boats to be loaded and unloaded from the full height of the loading bay within the building.

The grade 2 listed building was originally converted to a public house in the 1980’s by local architect James Brotherhood.

In 2000, Telford’s was forced to close due to a major fire which destroyed much of the buildings internal features and took nearly a year to restore.

Today, Telford’s clientele are attracted by its friendly staff and large open bar with an exceptional selection of European beers, CAMRA rated cask conditioned ales and extensive wine list.

Telfords folk sessions Christmas Special

Free Entry

Hosted by local folk pioneers The Deportees will be inviting down folk musicians to join them in an organised folk session on Telford’s intimate window stage. Playing is by invite only or you can get in touch with them direct via contact.deportees.com and arrange a show with them as house band.

Mick Adrian and Graham  play guitars, mandolin, mandocello, bouzouki and banjo as well as  harmonica and melodeon – almost entirely acoustic, but with some subtle electric guitar touches.

Most of all they sing  – three voices finding unexpected harmonies in a mix of old and recent songs from both sides of the Atlantic, some written by themselves, others by their heroes like Woody Guthrie, Richard Thompson, Hank Williams, John Martyn,  Bob Dylan, Guy Clark, Robert Johnson, Buddy Holly, Tom Waits and good old Trad Arr.You’ll hear songs to join in with, songs to make you think, songs to move you and songs to get you moving

LEWIS HAMILTON BAND

Free Before 9pm, £4 Thereafter

From an early age Lewis listened to wide range of music. When he turned twelve years old, he was given a Squire Stratocaster™, his first electric guitar. Taking influence from great guitarists such as, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Eric Clapton, he quickly developed a passion for guitar led ‘Blues-Rock’ and spent hours every day learning tips and tricks from his idols. Now, at the age of twenty Lewis has developed a guitar style that has been compared to Joe Bonamassa and Eric Johnson. Vocally, he takes influence from the likes of Dave Mathews and John Mayer and writes his own music. Over the years he has performed with such notable musicians as Aynsley Lister (for whom he filled in vocals at a live show), Ryan McGarvey, Henrik Freischlader, Alan Nimmo, Chantel McGregor and Ben Poole. Lewis also has talent for recording and runs his own studio in Auchterarder, Scotland, where all his music is written, recorded, produced, mixed and mastered by Lewis himself.

Since their formation in August 2010 The Lewis Hamilton Band have been booked for over 400 shows from Shetland to Poland, and have appeared at most of the UK’s biggest blues festivals, including Main Stage performances at Hebden Bridge and Maryport. As a guitarist he pays tribute to some of the greatest musicians of the 20th century, taking influence from people like Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix and Rory Gallagher. He also incorporates playing styles from more modern blues-rock musicians such as, Joe Bonamassa, Derek Trucks and Matt Scofield. As a vocalist he has developed his own unique and powerful style of singing, while taking influence from the likes of Joe Cocker and Dave Mathews. His debut album Gambling Machine won the Scottish New Music Award for Scottish Jazz/Blues album of the year for 2012. Candlelight & Sympathy from Empty Roads will feature on the soundtrack of a new feature film ‘Scar Tissue’. His third album Ghost Train has had numerous top reviews and acclaim from magazines and websites worldwide, and airplay in over 15 countries. In addition to his previous nominations in the 2012 and 2013 British Blues Awards and receiving two preliminary nominations in their song-writing category, Lewis has been nominated yet again as YOUNG ARTIST of the Year in 2014.

Paint republic

We paint, we drink, we party

This is not a paint class as you know it! Join us for an evening of relaxed painting, hosted by our master artist, they’ll help you unleash your creativity by loosely instructing you how to paint a picture chosen for the event. The jokes are bad, the music’s loud, and the banter’s high. We recommend an alcoholic beverage to help you along your way, two hours later you’ll have a canvassed painting you can take home to give to your mum… She’ll love it, she loves everything you do. Free-styling’s encouraged, beginners are welcome, get loose and get creative!

E/I/N Live Set

TONY BEAR LIVE SET FROM THE TELFORDS STAGE!

Free before 9pm…£4 after

Funk/Soul/Hip Hop/Pop/Rock/Music….

” If you look back over the last fifty or sixty years of popular music, there’s literally millions of songs and records out there that still sound just as good today as when they were released. My mate Ed said ‘If it can be played now then it’s a now record.’ I tend to agree, but that’s only half the story. These days, when I DJ I want to blend all those hip tracks from back in the day with contemporary stuff because whether you like it or not, good music is being released all the time. I love big fat electronic beats, trippy bleeps and massive bass etc. It’s all about striking the right balance on the dancefloor… and having fun.” Tony Bear
