The Autumn Statement – a time for action for North Wales
That is the view of Wrexham MP Ian Lucas, who has been heading a Parliamentary push for investment in the region. As Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for the Mersey-Dee North Wales Region, Mr Lucas has been working alongside local councils, universities, transport groups and many more to help build a case for investment from the Westminster Government to come to North Wales.
Among projects he has backed are the Growth Track 360 campaign for an interconnected transport network across the region and the North Wales Growth Deal.
He said: “The Autumn Statement is the new Government’s chance to show us its priorities and the areas which it believes to be important.
“We need action of the kind we saw from the Welsh Government just yesterday, as they announced a multi-million pound investment in North Wales – and challenged the Chancellor to back the region too. That approach needs to be mirrored by the UK Government and we need to see real investment in North Wales and our wider region.
“There has been a lot of detailed work by people across North Wales, setting out the areas where the Government can help. We need a joined-up approach between different levels of Government, and a great deal of work has gone on to ensure that is taking place. We need to be clear about priorities, and about what we are asking for from Government – and a great deal of work has gone on to ensure that takes place.
“North Wales is speaking with one voice on the need for investment – in this year’s Autumn Statement, we will see if the Government is listening.”
