ACC Liverpool is a landmark regeneration project on the outstanding Mersey River Waterfront sited next to the famous grade one listed Albert Dock.
Designed by the award winning architects Wilkinson Eyre, ACC Liverpool houses the versatile BT Convention Centre with facilities including a 1,350 seat auditorium, 18 breakout rooms, up to 7000m2 of exhibition space and the Echo Arena Liverpool capable of seating over 10,000 concert goers.
It is also one of the most sustainable venues in Europe - designed to produce half the CO2 emissions it would without any environmentally-friendly measures.
The project has been funded by a number of key stakeholders, European Union (Objective 1) North West Development Agency, English Partnerships, Liverpool City Council, Liverpool Vision and forms part of a regeneration program across Liverpool.
ACC Liverpool opened in January 2008 with the launch event for Liverpool as European Capital of Culture. Full details about the project and the rest of the Kings Dock development, as well as a gallery of photographs about the building can be found on the Kings Waterfront website – click on the link under related stuff on this page.
Here at ACC Liverpool we recognise that sustainability and green issues are a key factor when deciding where to host your next event.
ACC Liverpool prides itself in being one of the greenest venues in Europe. In fact, the BT Convention Centre and the Echo Arena have been specifically designed to be one of the greenest venues in Europe. Now, that's refreshing; we don't just talk about green credentials – we actually deliver them to each and every event.
A brand new, sparkly venue with a fresh and innovative approach to conferencing and events, ACC Liverpool has been designed to produce half the C02 emissions it would without any environmentally-friendly measures whilst using 20% less electricity.
The design of the building, along with its insulation and air control system, is inherently efficient and requires significantly less energy than a traditional build would. Lighting is high efficiency and controlled by motion detection.
Outside, rainwater is collected on the roof of the building which is then used to flush toilets. Moreover, the rainwater accounts for about 40% of the water used for flushing toilets in the venue.
Five 20-metre low noise wind turbines situated on the riverside of the venue generate around 10% of ACC Liverpool's base load electricity.
All this means that before you even start to assess your impact, we have taken you half way in ensuring that your event is as sustainable as possible.
Our commitment to the environment doesn't stop there. ACC Liverpool is home to the Green Dream Team – our SWAT team of enthusiastic staff and service partners who hothouse ideas that change the way we do business to make it greener and cleaner, as well as supporting our hotel and tourism partners to do the same.
Our catering partners, Heathcotes, are a local catering business led by award-winning chef Paul Heathcote. Heathcotes serve all of the venues catering needs and source local, sustainable, all-season food that will make your mouth water.
